QUESTION
I had protected anal sex with a one-night stand and he came inside me with the condom on. However, when he was jacking me off, he was still inside me and went soft. When I looked back, the condom was on the blanket with cum inside. He said he was healthy. Should I worry about this?
ANSWER
Since your partner ejaculated inside the condom, once he goes soft, if his penis is still in your body, there is some risk of leakage of semen and consequently, STD transmission. It's hard to say how much risk, as it, of course, depends on whether he was infected with anything at the time. If you're feeling uneasy, you can get tested for HIV and other STDs. Increasingly tests are available that include a test for HIV viral RNA (the virus itself) in addition to a test for antibodies (your body’s reaction to the virus’ presence). HIV RNA can be found in the body a few weeks before antibodies show up and testing for it can be a good way to rule out very recent infection. In addition, your clinician will talk to you about testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and/or Hepatitis B. Go see a doctor soon so the worrying can end.
